Research Interests

The research that I will be undertaking at MSc level, will focus on the impacts of ocean acidification (OA) on the behaviour and physiology of ragworms, Hediste diversicolor.

Throughout my time at university it has become clear that climate change and ocean acidification is an issue that needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later, this is one of the reasons why I have chosen to go down this avenue. I also have a keen interest in the intertidal zone, this is down to my interest in bryozoa, porifera and nudibranchia.

My dissertation at undergraduate level was on the impacts of epiphytes, mainly hydrozoan and bryozoan, on Fucus serratus and Mastocarpus stellatus at Filey Brigg. This dissertation project stemmed from previous interests in the subject matter. I have also been fortunate to have the opportunity to undertake a bird bio-acoustic project in the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. This looked at the difference between the dawn and dusk chorus, but also the difference between the choruses at sites that were at different levels of regeneration. Also, in my first year I had the chance to observe and analyse the behaviours of Curlew’s, Numenius arquata, at the Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland.
